Thoughts and Ramblings of a Struggling Christian
I was watching a documentary recently in which a church leader said something along the lines of this:
“Your love for God is mainly driven by your fear of hell.”
And I thought to myself, “Well, that just seems wrong. It doesn’t seem Biblical at all. I thought the whole point of being given the choice between Jesus and Satan was so that we could truly love instead of being forced into it. There should be no fear about choosing freely.”
So there it is… there is no fear in love. The Word of God says so.
“You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.”
I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore have hope: because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
